Jess Stacy

Jess Stacy was an American jazz pianist who made his mark during the swing era. Born in 1904, Stacy gained prominence in the 1930s as a member of Benny Goodman's orchestra. He played on Goodman's famous 1938 Carnegie Hall concert, where his unplanned solo during "Sing, Sing, Sing" became a highlight of the performance.

After leaving Goodman's band, Stacy joined Bob Crosby's orchestra and won DownBeat magazine's piano poll in 1940. Though his career declined in later years, Stacy experienced a brief revival in the 1970s, playing at the Newport Jazz Festival and recording for Chiaroscuro Records. He retired from music for good in the late 1970s and passed away in 1995 at the age of 90.
