Birgitte Alsted

Birgitte Alsted is a Danish violinist, teacher, and composer born on June 15, 1942, in Odense. She was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and in Warsaw. Alsted has been involved in various musical endeavors, including electronic music and multimedia performances that often incorporate poetry, dance, and visual elements. Her compositions span a wide range, from music theater to works for soloists and chamber ensembles, often featuring unconventional elements. She was a founder of the "Gruppen for Alternativ Musik," which focused on alternative forms and collective improvisation. Alsted has also worked as a violinist in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and as a teacher in Copenhagen.

Some of her notable works include "Vækst" (1988), "Sorgsang II" (1995), and "Planetarium Music" (2001), which she collaborated on with Duo Gelland. Her music often reflects a blend of traditional and experimental approaches, making her a unique figure in Danish contemporary music. Alsted's contributions to the music scene extend beyond composition to include teaching and performance, showcasing her versatility as an artist.
