Praveen Alva is a Bengaluru-based architect and singer-songwriter who is passionate about reviving and celebrating the Tulu language, a 2500-year-old Dravidian tongue from the coastal Karnataka region. Born and raised in Mangalore, he grew up deeply influenced by the rich culture of his homeland. Praveen started writing songs in Tulu around four years ago and founded the indie band Alva Kuuto, which uniquely blends folk rock with contemporary musical styles to bring this ancient language to diverse audiences. Their self-titled debut album showcases a vibrant mix of funk and rock, making Tulu's cultural heritage accessible and engaging even for those unfamiliar with the language.
Alva Kuuto is more than just a band—it's a collective effort to preserve and reinterpret Tulu through music, combining soulful lyrics with compelling rhythms that resonate emotionally beyond words. Praveen's songwriting reflects his strong connection to his roots, wrapped in modern arrangements that echo the energy of bands like Avial and Motherjane, but with a distinct regional identity. His work stands as a creative bridge between tradition and contemporary expression, inviting listeners on a sonic journey through the sounds and stories of Tulu culture.
