Capitalist Casualties

Capitalist Casualties was an American power violence band known for their blistering pace, politically charged lyrics, and for being one of the defining acts of the West Coast power violence scene. Forming in 1986 in Santa Rosa, California, the band quickly became notorious for their raw sonic assault and relentless pace, reflecting the aggressive, fast-paced subgenre that straddles the line between hardcore punk and extreme metal. The band's members have included Shawn Smith on vocals, Jeff Robinson and Mike Scott on guitar, Hiro Yamamoto on bass, and James Jarrett primarily on drums.

Throughout their career, Capitalist Casualties built a substantial underground following with their no-holds-barred approach to music and lyrical content that criticized political apathy, corporate greed, and social decay. Notable among their extensive discography are releases like "Disassembly Line" and "Subdivisions in Ruin," which exposed the band's ability to marry rapid-fire instrumentation with incisive social commentary. After more than three decades of contributing to the power violence and hardcore scenes, the band's legacy is captured in comprehensive collections such as "1996 - 1999: Years in Ruin," as well as split records with other bands—a common practice in punk subcultures—where "Split" denotes their involvement in sharing album space to promote multiple groups within the scene. Their influence has rippled out across both punk and metal, cementing their status as stalwarts of sonic extremism and conscientious provocation.
