Dumb Things

**Dumb Things** is a Melbourne-based indie rock trio known for their jangly guitar hooks, laid-back grooves, and lyrics that blend self-deprecating humor with sharp observations about modern life. Formed in 2018 by vocalist/guitarist Mia Cooper, bassist Liam Park, and drummer Ollie Chen, the band cut their teeth playing DIY venues across Australia’s east coast before gaining traction with their 2019 EP *Static Buzz*. Their sound—a cozy mix of garage-rock energy and slacker-pop charm—draws comparisons to acts like Courtney Barnett and The Go-Betweens, but with a distinctly Gen-Z twist.

Dumb Things’ 2022 debut album *Overgrown* (featuring fan favorites like “Self Help” and “Windows and Doors”) solidified their reputation as storytellers of suburban ennui and quarter-life crises. Tracks like “Outta Time” and “Crash Barrier” showcase their knack for pairing catchy, riff-driven melodies with lyrics that poke at everyday absurdities, from doomscrolling to overpriced rent. Between relentless touring and a DIY ethos (they still hand-screen their merch), the band has built a loyal following for their relatable, no-frills approach to indie rock.
