Eugene Tzigane

Eugene Tzigane is a dynamic and versatile conductor known for his engaging performances and wide-ranging musical curiosity. Born in Tokyo in 1981 to a Japanese mother and an American father, Tzigane grew up between continents, which helped shape his eclectic approach to music. He studied orchestral conducting at the Juilliard School with James DePreist and later with Jorma Panula at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Tzigane has won several prestigious conducting competitions, including the Grand Prize at the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition and Second Prize at both the Sir Georg Solti and Lovro von Matačić competitions.

Tzigane has guest conducted orchestras across four continents, including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Bruckner Orchestra Linz, and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and has led opera performances at major houses like the Bavarian State Opera and Hamburg State Opera. He served as Chief Conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie and Principal Guest Conductor of the Pomeranian Philharmonic before becoming Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Finland in 2023. Known for his fresh interpretations and interest in forgotten works and minority composers, Tzigane brings both precision and passion to the podium.
