Umbayee
Umbayee, born P. A. Ibrahim, was a renowned Indian ghazal singer and composer from Kerala. Born in Mattancherry, near Kochi, he was known for his unique soulful renditions of Malayalam ghazals. Despite initial opposition from his family, Umbayee pursued his passion for music, training under Ustad Munawar Ali Khan in Mumbai. He became a pivotal figure in popularizing ghazals in Kerala, creating music for notable poets like ONV Kurup and Satchidanandan. His contributions to Malayalam music include numerous albums and collaborations with prominent lyricists and music directors.
Umbayee's legacy is marked by his soulful performances and compositions, which remain cherished in Kerala's music scene. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 68, leaving behind a wife and three children. Throughout his career, Umbayee's dedication to ghazals earned him significant recognition and admiration from music lovers and critics alike.
