Timothy B. Schmit is an American singer, songwriter, and bassist best known for his work with two of rock’s biggest harmony-driven bands: Poco and the Eagles. He joined Poco in 1969, stepping into the role previously held by Randy Meisner, and went on to sing lead on the band’s signature hit “Keep On Tryin’.” A few years later, Schmit again replaced Meisner—this time in the Eagles—joining in 1977 and adding his smooth high harmonies and melodic bass playing to the group’s late-’70s and beyond era, including the album *The Long Run*.
Outside his famous band work, Schmit has also maintained a solo career, releasing his own music and continuing to perform in various settings over the years. He’s widely admired for his warm, effortless vocal style—an essential ingredient in the layered California rock sound that made both Poco and the Eagles so enduring.
