Thomas Koppel

**Thomas Koppel** was a Danish composer, pianist, and co-founder of the iconic rock band Savage Rose, which became a cornerstone of Denmark’s progressive music scene in the late 1960s. Born into a musical family (his father, Herman D. Koppel, was a celebrated composer), Thomas blended rock, jazz, and classical influences into his work, creating a genre-defying sound. After Savage Rose’s initial success, he expanded into composing orchestral pieces, operas, and film scores, showcasing his versatility.

Known for collaborations with artists like his sister, singer Karina Koppel, Thomas’s later works—such as the haunting *Hush - Lullaby for a Dying Monster* and the vibrant *Los Angeles Street Concerto*—reveal his knack for merging emotional depth with experimental textures. His *Mass for a Case* and the *Nele’s Dances* suite further highlight his ability to weave storytelling into music. Though he passed away in 2006, his boundary-pushing legacy lives on in both Denmark’s rock history and its contemporary classical landscape.
