Yorkston/Thorne/Khan is a genre-blending trio made up of Scottish singer-songwriter James Yorkston, English jazz bassist Jon Thorne, and Indian classical sarangi player and vocalist Suhail Yusuf Khan. Formed in the mid-2010s, the group fuses folk, jazz, and Indian classical music into a richly textured and often meditative sound. Their collaboration bridges cultures and genres, resulting in a unique musical experience that's both adventurous and deeply emotive.
They released their debut album Everything Sacred in 2016 to critical acclaim, followed by Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars in 2017 and Navarasa: Nine Emotions in 2020. These albums highlight the trio's commitment to exploring musical boundaries, with multilingual lyrics and a sonic palette that includes traditional Indian instruments, Western folk melodies, and improvisational jazz. Yorkston/Thorne/Khan are celebrated for their thoughtful songwriting, intricate arrangements, and the deep musical chemistry shared among the three artists.
