Aphrodite's Child

Aphrodite's Child was a highly influential Greek progressive rock band that formed in the late 1960s. Comprised of the enigmatic vocalist Demis Roussos, versatile keyboardist Vangelis Papathanassiou—who would later gain fame simply as Vangelis—and drummer Lucas Sideras, the trio was a significant presence in the European rock scene during their short but impactful career. Initially playing a mix of psychedelic and pop rock, the band soon ventured into the more ambitious realms of progressive rock with complex compositions and thought-provoking lyrical content.

The band's most ambitious and renowned album, "666," was released in 1972, after which the group disbanded. This concept album, also known as "The Apocalypse of John, 13/18," explored themes from the Book of Revelation and is often viewed as a masterpiece of progressive rock for its daring, experimental sound. Prior to "666," Aphrodite's Child had commercial success with the albums "End Of The World" and "It's Five O'Clock," featuring a more accessible rock sound that hinted at their later progressive direction. Despite their brief existence, Aphrodite's Child's innovative approach and the later successes of its individual members have ensured a lasting legacy in the annals of rock history.
