Ettore Causa is celebrated internationally as one of the most distinguished violists of his generation. Born in Naples, Italy, Causa was drawn to music early in life and swiftly garnered attention for his prodigious abilities. Having studied at the Conservatoire de Musique de Sion in Switzerland and the International Menuhin Music Academy with Alberto Lysy and Johannes Eskar, he went on to refine his skills in the celebrated classrooms of the Manhattan School of Music. His artistic accomplishments have not gone unnoticed; Causa is a recipient of the coveted P. Schidlof Prize from the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the William Primrose Prize.
Apart from his remarkable performance career, Ettore Causa is also recognized for his insightful interpretations and arrangements. His deep musicality and refined artistry have been encapsulated in a series of poignant recordings. Among his most recent releases is "Brahms & Schumann: Transcriptions for Viola & Piano," a project that showcases his ingenuity in transcribing and reimagining classical pieces for the viola. In "Brahms: Six Lieder, arrangement for Viola and Piano - The Two Viola Sonatas," Causa expertly bridges the vocal and instrumental divide, highlighting the viola's unique lyrical voice. "Romantic Transcriptions for Viola & Piano" further cements his reputation as a musician who not only possesses virtuosic technique but also an innate ability to convey the intrinsic emotions of Romantic-era compositions. As an educator, Causa dedicates himself to sharing his knowledge and passion for music, serving as a professor of viola and chamber music at the Yale School of Music.
