Saulus Sondetskis

**Saulus Sondetskis** was a Lithuanian conductor and violinist celebrated for his passionate interpretations of classical and Romantic repertoire. Born in Šiauliai, Lithuania, in 1938, he trained at the Leningrad Conservatory under the legendary violinist Nathan Milstein and later became a defining figure in Eastern Europe’s classical music scene. In 1960, he founded the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, which he led for over five decades, earning acclaim for vibrant performances of Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich (including works like *Symphony No. 13*). Known for blending precision with emotional intensity, Sondetskis championed lesser-known composers like Myaskovsky and Sviridov, as heard in releases such as *Einsamkeit, Liebe, Verzweiflung*. His legacy includes mentoring generations of musicians and elevating Lithuania’s orchestral reputation. He passed away in 2016, leaving an indelible mark on classical music.
