Jalal Zolfonun was a renowned Iranian composer and master of the setar, a traditional Persian string instrument. Born in 1938 in Abadeh, Iran, he played a major role in popularizing the setar as a solo instrument and bringing Persian classical music to a global audience. Zolfonun studied at the Tehran Conservatory of Music and further honed his craft under some of Iran’s greatest maestros, including Nour Ali Boroumand and Dariush Safvat.
Throughout his career, Zolfonun collaborated with many prominent Iranian musicians and released a number of influential recordings, such as "Mystic Journey: String Music of Iran" and "Kord Bayat - Traditional Music From Iran." His deeply expressive playing and commitment to traditional forms helped cement his legacy as one of the most important figures in Persian music.
