Agnes Baltsa

Agnes Baltsa is a Greek mezzo-soprano who has enjoyed a long and successful career in opera. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Richard Strauss, and has sung at major opera houses around the world. Baltsa was born in Athens, Greece, in 1944. She studied singing at the Athens Conservatory and made her professional debut in 1968. She quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and dramatic intensity, and soon began to sing leading roles in major opera houses. Baltsa has performed with many of the world's leading conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Claudio Abbado. She has also recorded extensively, and her recordings have won numerous awards.
