Paavo Heininen is a Finnish composer, pianist, and conductor. Born in 1938, he studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and later in Cologne and Darmstadt. Heininen's music is characterized by its complex textures, use of serialism, and exploration of new sounds and techniques. He has composed a wide range of works, including operas, symphonies, concertos, and chamber music. Heininen has also been active as a conductor, leading performances of his own works as well as those of other composers.
