The Irradiates

The Irradiates are a French surf rock band formed in 2007 in Besançon, known for blending punk energy with vintage sci-fi-inspired surf rock sounds. The group consists of veteran musicians from other local bands like Hawaii Samurai and Lost Boys, who together formed the Scientific Surf Rock Research Department. Over the years, they have released several albums, including their third album *Revenge of the Plants* and a special compilation called *Lost Transmissions from the Remote Outpost*, featuring rare and unreleased tracks from their first decade. Their music is mostly instrumental but occasionally features guest vocalists, showcasing influences ranging from traditional surf to punk and post-hardcore, with references to bands like Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, and Fugazi. The Irradiates are recognized for their energetic live shows and their unique spacey, experimental take on surf rock.
