Jan Antonín Losy

Jan Antonín Losy was a Bohemian nobleman and lutenist-composer who lived during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Also known as Count Losy of Losinthal, he was highly esteemed in his time for his refined lute compositions, which blended elements of French and Italian styles. While his exact birth date is uncertain—likely around 1650—he spent much of his life in Prague and was an influential figure in central European Baroque music.

Losy's music, particularly his suites and dance movements for solo lute, showcases a graceful and ornamented style, placing him among the top lutenists of his era. He corresponded and engaged musically with other prominent musicians of the time, and his legacy lives on in the repertoire of classical lutenists today. His surviving works continue to be recorded and performed, giving modern audiences a glimpse into the elegance of Baroque-era string music.
