Guardrail

Guardrail is a Chicago-based band known for calling themselves the world's first "Diet Punk" band. They acknowledge their punk influences but don't fit squarely into the traditional punk mold, blending punk, pop, and metal elements into a unique sound infused with catchy melodies and relatable lyrics. The band lineup includes Kevin Andrew on vocals, Alyssa Laessig on bass and vocals, Ken Ugel and Xack Brame on guitars, and Doug Brand on drums. Since their debut EP *Wordswords* in 2015, Guardrail has evolved their style, culminating in their 2020 EP *Yikes*, which explores the difficulties of growing up through energetic, guitar-driven rock with honest and often introspective lyrics. Their music resonates with fans of bands like The Bouncing Souls, Sum 41, and The Swellers, delivering upbeat tunes with thoughtful themes wrapped in a fun and engaging package.

They describe their music as singing happy songs about not-so-happy things, seasoned with positive energy and a dash of Chicago local flavor, like Jeppson’s Malört. Despite lineup changes early on, the band solidified in 2018 and continues to craft distinct "Diet Punk" tunes, offering both catchy hooks and emotional depth in their work. Guardrail's blend of influences and their honest, spirited approach has positioned them as a distinctive voice in the Chicago rock scene.
