Andrei Nikolsky

Andrei Nikolsky was a talented Russian pianist born in 1959 in Moscow. He began his piano studies at the age of five and later attended the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he was taught by renowned instructors such as Stanislav Neuhaus and Lev Naumov. Nikolsky also had the opportunity to study with Hans Leygraf at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. His career was marked by significant achievements, including winning second prize at the Concours Long-Thibaud in 1979 and first prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in 1987. He performed at notable venues, including a Tanglewood performance in 1986 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa. Nikolsky's repertoire included works by Chopin and Rachmaninoff, and he tragically passed away in a car accident in 1995.

Nikolsky's recordings reflect his mastery of classical piano, with notable works including Chopin's preludes and Sonata No. 2, as well as Rachmaninoff's Sonata No. 2. His performances were highly regarded, and he left a lasting impact on the classical music scene despite his untimely death. His legacy continues to be celebrated through his recordings and the competitions he won during his career.
