Robert Görl is a prolific German musician and composer, prominently known for his pioneering work in electronic music and as one half of the influential avant-garde band Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF). Born on June 15, 1955, in Munich, Görl's foray into music was marked by his early interest in drumming. However, his artistic trajectory took a decisive turn when he met Gabi Delgado-López, with whom he formed DAF in 1978. Together, they created an innovative blend of punk, electronic music, and the Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave) sound that catapulted them to cult status within the late '70s and early '80s music scene.
Görl's work is characterized by his propulsive drum beats and forays into synthesizer-driven melodies which are echoed in his solo career. In the years following DAF's initial disbandment in the mid-'80s, Görl released several solo records that continued to investigate the boundaries of electronic music. His body of solo work, including albums such as "Night Full Of Tension" and "Psycho Therapie," showcases his versatility and commitment to exploring the intersections of electronic beats, industrial, and techno. More recent works like "Nur Noch Einer" and "Kunststoff" reflect Görl's unwavering relevance and his influence on successive generations of electronic music artists. His collaborations also extend into remix culture, with works such as "Part 1 (Vince Clarke Remix)" evidencing his integration into the broader fabric of the electronic music community. Despite the passing of his bandmate Gabi Delgado-López in 2020, Görl's artistic output continues, ensuring the DAF legacy endures through new music and performances.
