Borghesia is an avant-garde electronic music group from Slovenia, which was originally formed in the mid-1980s in the former Yugoslavia. Known for pioneering the regions' industrial music scene and for their politically charged and sexually explicit content, Borghesia set itself apart with its provocative performance art and multimedia practices. The group was founded by Ljubljana-based artists, Aldo Ivančić and Dario Seraval, who were initially part of the alternative theatre group Theatre FV-112/15. Along with other members who came and went, Borghesia became a collective that was as much about image and visual art as it was about music.
Over the years, after their initial underground success in the 1980s with albums like "Ljubav je hladnija od smrti" and "Clones", Borghesia's music evolved, reflecting changes both in their personal artistic direction and in the sociopolitical landscape of Europe. Their work from the late 2010s and early 2020s, including albums like "Proti kapitulaciji" (Against Capitulation) and "And Man Created God", continue to showcase their signature blend of industrial beats, dark electronic textures, and daring commentary. The collective remains a significant presence in the electronic and industrial music scenes, marked by their experimental ethos and a discography that spans decades, persistently challenging societal norms and musical boundaries.
