Thomas Clausen Trio

**Thomas Clausen Trio** is the long-standing jazz outfit led by Danish pianist Thomas Clausen (born 1949 in Copenhagen), with current members bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk and drummer Karsten Bagge. Formed around 2006, the trio kicked off with their debut *Back To Basics* recorded in Copenhagen that August, diving into standards with a fresh, dynamic twist—think flexible takes on tunes like "Invitation" and "How Deep Is The Ocean," echoing Bill Evans while carving their own path. Over the years, they've kept the vibe alive with releases like *Back 2 Basics* (2021), *Symbiosis · Tribute to Bill Evans*, *My Favorite Things*, *Flowers and Trees*, *Café Noir*, and *She Touched Me*, showcasing Clausen's lyrical yet energetic style alongside the rhythm section's tight interplay.

Clausen, a Royal Danish Conservatory grad and jazz heavyweight, started young, jamming with legends like Dexter Gordon, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Gary Burton, and even Miles Davis on Palle Mikkelborg's Grammy-winning *Aura*. His trio evolved from those roots, originally featuring Ørsted Pedersen, into a powerhouse that's earned awards like the Ben Webster Prize and ongoing support from the Danish Arts Foundation, blending European composition flair with straight-ahead jazz swing. It's all about that easy wandering through harmonies without losing the thread—pure Danish cool.
