Indian is a sludge/doom metal band with a penchant for creating oppressing soundscapes and harrowing aural experiences that unflinchingly confront the listener. Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2003, the band has carved out a distinct niche within extreme music, known for their heavy, feedback-soaked sound and harsh, visceral vocals. The group's lineup has seen some changes over the years, but much of their music has been shaped by guitarist/vocalist Dylan O'Toole, guitarist Will Lindsay, bassist Ron DeFries, and drummer Bill Bumgardner, who sadly passed away in 2016.
Over the years, Indian pushed the boundaries of heaviness and dissonance within the metal genre, culminating in critically acclaimed releases such as "From All Purity" in 2014, which demonstrated the band's ability to weave together a tapestry of punishing riffs and bleak, nihilistic aesthetics. This was followed by the reissue "Indian - Guiltless (Deluxe Version)" which added depth to their 2011 release with additional material for die-hard fans and newcomers alike. Their earlier work, such as "The Unquiet Sky," originally released in 2007 and reissued in later years, serves as a testament to the formidable foundation of their menacing sound, and it echoes their dominance in mixing sludge metal with a dark, aggressive noise crafted to unsettle and provoke. Despite their underground status, Indian's influence on the extreme metal scene is undeniable, as they consistently delivered some of the most challenging and heavy music of their era.
