Visible Cloaks

Visible Cloaks, a duo formed by Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile, has carved a distinctive niche within the electronic and ambient music scenes with their futuristic and globally attuned sound. The Portland-based artists blend their deep appreciation for new age tapes, Japanese environmental music, and digital manipulation to craft a sonic landscape that feels at once deeply familiar and uncannily distant.

Since their self-titled debut EP in 2014, Visible Cloaks have continued to expand and refine their approach to composition and sound design. They achieved a breakthrough with "Reassemblage" in 2017, a critically acclaimed album that melded computerized sounds with organic instrumentation to create a serene, meditative experience. This was followed by "Lex" the same year, an EP that continued to explore synthetic textures and human-machine collaboration. In 2019, "FRKWYS Vol. 15: serenitatem," a collaboration with Japanese ambient musicians Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano, showcased their increasingly international approach to music-making. Visible Cloaks' discography is characterized by an exacting attention to detail and a thoughtful integration of diverse musical traditions, creating transcendent works that are as intellectually compelling as they are emotively resonant.
