Con Funk Shun is an American R&B and funk band that originated from Vallejo, California. The group was formed in the early 1970s by high school friends, led by the then-drummer Louis A. McCall Sr. and bassist Cedric Martin. They began as Project Soul and eventually morphed into Con Funk Shun, the name inspired by a song by the same name performed by another band, Nite-Liters. They were later joined by vocalists Felton Pilate and Michael Cooper, keyboardist Danny "Sweet Man" Thomas, trombonist Karl Fuller, and saxophonist Paul "Maceo" Harrell.
Over the years, Con Funk Shun enjoyed a successful career, releasing a string of hit songs in the 70s and 80s, including "Ffun", "Shake and Dance with Me", and "Love's Train". They have been known for their strong melodies, tight horn arrangements, and polished rhythm section, earning them a spot in the pantheon of popular funk bands. After disbanding in the late 80s, they reunited in the 90s and continue to perform and record new music, as evident from their recent releases such as "Text Me Tomorrow" and "Home For Christmas", and their live albums "Confunkshun Live in Concert" and "Live for Ya Ass". Con Funk Shun maintains a devoted fan base and continues to deliver the vibrant energy and soulful grooves that originally catapulted them to fame.
