Carsick Cars

Carsick Cars is an influential Chinese indie rock band that emerged from the vibrant underground music scene of Beijing in the mid-2000s. Known for their unique blend of noise-pop, punk influences, and infectious melodies, the band has carved out a significant place within China's alternative culture and has gained recognition on the international stage. Founded in 2005 by lead singer and guitarist Zhang Shouwang, bassist Li Weisi, and drummer Li Qing, Carsick Cars quickly became synonymous with the burgeoning Chinese DIY music ethos, performing in small venues that were the heart of an emerging subculture.

The band released their self-titled debut album in 2007, "Carsick Cars," which captured the raw energy of their early performances and served as a manifesto for a generation of Chinese youth looking for a voice. Over the years, their sound matured and evolved, demonstrated by subsequent releases such as "You Can Listen, You Can Talk," and "3," both albums showcasing the band's growth in songwriting and experimentation with noise elements. Their live album "Live @ D22" is a testament to their electrifying stage presence, commemorating the iconic Beijing venue that was a focal point for independent Chinese artists. With their more recent EP, "The Other 3," and singles like "叫醒我" (Wake Me Up) and their contribution to the compilation "滾石40 滾石撞樂隊 40團拚經典 - 愛的代價," Carsick Cars continue to push the boundaries of China's rock music, merging the underground with traditional Chinese elements and global rock sounds, solidifying their role as torchbearers for the evolving identity of contemporary Chinese music.
