Thomas Herzog

Thomas Herzog is a Swiss conductor with Hungarian roots, born in Basel in 1972. He studied percussion, composition, and conducting, and has had a distinguished career in both ballet and concert conducting. As a ballet conductor, Herzog has worked extensively with Theater Basel since 2014 and has regularly conducted at the Semperoper Dresden and the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest since 2019. His concert repertoire includes a strong focus on contemporary music and Spanish composers, particularly the zarzuela genre. Herzog has been a regular guest conductor with several orchestras, including the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo. He has also made notable debuts with orchestras like the Spanish Radio Orchestra RTVE in Madrid and the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam.

As a recording artist, Thomas Herzog's discography includes a zarzuela album and the premiere recording of Marius Felix Lange's Singspiel *Millistrade*. His musical leadership spans a wide range of projects, including educational initiatives with the Basel Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Herzog won First Prize at the "Concours pour jeunes compositeurs" in 1997, showcasing his early talent as a composer. His recent performances and collaborations are marked by versatility and a commitment to both classical and contemporary works.
