Zygmunt Stojowski

Zygmunt Stojowski (1870–1946) was a Polish composer, pianist, and teacher whose music is often characterized by its expressive romanticism and lyrical melodies. Born in Strzelce, Poland, he began his musical education in Kraków before continuing his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was a pupil of renowned teachers such as Léo Delibes and Louis Diémer. His works garnered him significant acclaim in France and across Europe, establishing him as a notable figure in the musical world during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Throughout his career, Stojowski enjoyed success as both a composer and concert pianist, often performing his pieces to great praise. Although his name was somewhat eclipsed after his death by other composers of the time, renewed interest in his music has led to a rediscovery of his work in the 21st century. Recent releases include world premiere recordings of his compositions, which showcase both the breadth and depth of his output, from the intricate and demanding concertos for piano and violin to serenely beautiful suites for orchestra. His oeuvre is a testament to the rich tapestry of romantic classical music, and his Complete Works for Violin and Piano, Piano Concertos, and Symphony, among others, are now being explored and appreciated once again by a modern audience.
