Riccardo Del Fra is an acclaimed Italian jazz double bassist and composer, celebrated for his lyrical playing and elegant style. Early in his career, he performed with top Italian jazz and pop artists before relocating to Paris, where he became a key figure in the European jazz scene. He gained international recognition through his long-standing collaboration with legendary trumpeter Chet Baker, with whom he recorded and toured extensively in the 1980s.
In addition to his work with Baker, Del Fra has collaborated with a range of jazz greats including Enrico Pieranunzi, Lee Konitz, and Joe Lovano. His more recent projects, like Moving People and My Chet My Song, showcase his talent not only as a performer but also as a thoughtful composer and arranger. Del Fra also plays a significant role in jazz education, serving as the director of the jazz department at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), where he mentors emerging talents in contemporary jazz.
