Wojciech Michniewski is a renowned Polish composer and conductor, born on April 4, 1947, in Łódź. He studied conducting with Stanisław Wisłocki and music theory and composition with Andrzej Dobrowolski at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. Michniewski's career has been marked by significant roles in various orchestras and institutions. From 1973 to 1978, he was associated with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, and he co-founded the KEW composers' group with Krzysztof Knittel and Elżbieta Sikora. In the late 1970s, he won several prestigious awards, including the Premio RAI and the Cantelli Award. Michniewski has also been the artistic director of the Grand Theatre in Łódź and the managing director of the Poznań Philharmonic.
In recent years, Michniewski has focused more on conducting, leading performances with numerous orchestras worldwide. His repertoire includes a wide range of classical and contemporary works. Although he has stepped back from composing, his early compositions remain notable, such as *Whisperetto*, which received the Premio RAI award in 1975. Michniewski's contributions to Polish music have been recognized with awards like the Fryderyk for his recordings of Witold Lutosławski's works.
