Outlawz

The Outlawz, originally known as Outlaw Immortalz, are a hip-hop group that was formed by Tupac Shakur in late 1995 after his release from prison. Comprised of rappers Young Noble, E.D.I. Mean, Hussein Fatal (who passed away in 2015), Kastro, Napoleon (who later left the music industry), and also including close affiliates like Yaki Kadafi (who was killed in 1996), the Outlawz were associated with the rowdy, unapologetic ethos of West Coast rap of the 1990s. Their name pays homage to political figures and enemies of the state, as each member adopted the alias of an infamous political figure, aligning with Shakur's vision of them being "Outlawz" against the grain of the societal status quo.

The group gained significant exposure and notoriety through their association with Tupac Shakur, featuring prominently on the late rapper's multi-platinum hits. After Tupac’s death in 1996, the Outlawz continued his legacy, releasing a series of albums that reflected their mentor’s ethos of social justice and street survival. Over the years, The Outlawz worked on fostering solo careers as well as group projects. Some of their more recent works include the collaborative 'Thug Brothers' series with Bone Thugs-n-Harmony member Krayzie Bone, 'Classic Collabz' volumes, which are compilations with other artists, and a nod to their continued socio-political engagement with albums like 'Against All Oddz' and 'Soldier 2 Soldier'. The Outlawz have also worked with a newer generation of artists, as evidenced by their single "Grow Through It." Maintaining an underground resilience, The Outlawz have maneuvered through the industry with independently released records and a loyal fan base, underscoring their enduring presence in the hip-hop scene.
