Ludwig Suthaus

Ludwig Suthaus was a German operatic tenor, best known for his performances in the works of Richard Wagner. Born in 1906, he initially trained as a bricklayer before his powerful and expressive voice led him to pursue opera. Suthaus gained recognition for his rich, dramatic tenor, particularly in roles like Tristan in *Tristan und Isolde* and Siegfried in *Der Ring des Nibelungen*. He frequently collaborated with legendary conductors such as Wilhelm Furtwängler and made several recordings that remain highly regarded today. Despite a career impacted by World War II, he became one of the leading Heldentenors of his time before retiring in the late 1950s.
