Bruno Delepelaire is a Paris-born cellist who’s called Berlin home since 2012, when he came to study at the University of the Arts and the Karajan Academy. His journey to the cello started at age five, inspired by his grandmother, who was herself an enthusiastic, amateur cellist. After winning a slew of top prizes at international competitions—including the Karl Davidoff International Cello Competition in 2012 and the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition in 2013—he became the principal cellist of the Berliner Philharmoniker in November 2013, a role he’s held ever since. Known for his expressive playing and versatility, Bruno has performed as a soloist and chamber musician with leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Berlin Baroque Soloists. He’s also a regular presence at festivals and has a passion for bringing both classical repertoire and lesser-known works to life for audiences around the world.
When he’s not on stage or in the studio, Bruno is known for his love of birds and might have pursued ornithology if life had taken a different turn. But for music lovers, it’s lucky that he followed his grandmother’s lead and picked up the cello—his technically brilliant and emotionally charged performances have earned him rave reviews and a devoted following.
