Otto von Rohr was a renowned German operatic bass, born on February 24, 1914, in Berlin, Germany. He studied at the Musikhochschule Berlin under the tutelage of Hermann Weißenborn. Von Rohr made his professional debut in 1938 at the Stadttheater in Duisburg, performing as Sarastro in Mozart's *The Magic Flute*. He went on to become a staple at the Staatstheater Stuttgart from 1941 until his death in 1982. During his career, he performed in numerous prestigious opera houses, including those in Frankfurt, Basel, Zurich, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, La Scala, Paris, and Buenos Aires. His repertoire included a wide range of roles such as Guernemanz, Daland, Pogner, King Marke, Rocco, Oroveso, Ochs, King Philip, Ramphis, Banquo, Timur, Pimen, Gremin, and Kontschak.
Von Rohr's contributions to opera are also reflected in his recordings, which include works by Wagner, such as *Lohengrin*. His performances were highly regarded, and he collaborated with many notable conductors and singers throughout his career. Despite his passing on July 5, 1982, in Leonberg, Germany, Otto von Rohr's legacy continues to be celebrated for his powerful and expressive bass voice in the world of opera.
