Swing Kids

Swing Kids were a pivotal post-hardcore band known for their frenetic energy, intricate musicianship, and a unique fusion of genres that incorporated elements of punk, jazz, and even swing music—the latter being an inspiration for their name. The band formed in the early 1990s in San Diego, California, and became associated with the influential San Diego music scene that spawned numerous experimental hardcore acts. Despite their short-lived existence and a limited discography, Swing Kids left an enduring mark on the underground music community.

The band's intense live performances and politically charged lyrics helped to cultivate a dedicated following. Swing Kids underwent several lineup changes but at its core featured vocalist Justin Pearson, who would later be known for his role in numerous other influential bands within the punk and hardcore scenes. Their seminal self-titled EP "Swing Kids" and their split release "Swing Kids / Spanakorzo" are lauded as essential listening for fans of the genre. After their disbandment, their work was periodically compiled and reissued, as seen with "Discography," which rounded up their body of work, and "Anthology (Remastered)," ensuring new generations of fans could experience the explosive creativity of their brief but impactful career. Despite relative obscurity, they've become cult favorites, with a legacy that continues to inspire post-hardcore and experimental musicians alike.
