David Bode

David Bode is a New Orleans-born saxophonist, composer, vocalist, and music educator whose work spans jazz, funk, reggae, classical, and more. Growing up immersed in the vibrant music scene of New Orleans, he was inspired early on by Mardi Gras drumlines and began studying saxophone in elementary school. David refined his craft through formal training at Loyola University and the University of New Orleans under notable mentors, while gaining real-world experience playing in diverse ensembles including the New Orleans High Society and the New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra. He has performed at major festivals like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and internationally, and his playing has been praised by Offbeat magazine as exemplary.

In 2025, David made his debut as a big band leader with the album *Good Hang*, featuring a 19-piece jazz orchestra showcasing his blend of New Orleans soul and diverse influences, from classic Coltrane to Jeff Buckley covers. The album was released exactly 20 years after Hurricane Katrina, a poignant milestone marking his enduring connection to his hometown’s musical heritage. On *Good Hang*, Bode uses dynamic horn arrangements and original compositions to create a joyful, funky sound grounded in New Orleans tradition and jazz innovation. Alongside performing and recording, he remains committed to music education and composing for various ensemble types, continuing to contribute richly to his city’s storied musical legacy.
