The Black Heart Procession was an indie rock band from San Diego, California, known for their melancholic, cinematic sound that blends indie, experimental, and atmospheric elements. Formed in 1997 by Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel—both previously of the band Three Mile Pilot—the group quickly gained a cult following for their emotionally rich music, often featuring somber melodies, ghostly piano lines, and theatrical arrangements.
Over the years, The Black Heart Procession released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including 1 through 6 (titled simply by number), as well as standout records like Amore del Tropico and The Spell. They also collaborated with other artists on projects like In The Fishtank 11 with Dutch indie band Solbakken. Known for their moody tone and a uniquely dark romanticism, the band carved out a distinctive niche in the indie music world before going on hiatus after 2010’s album Six.
