The Hollow Men were a British indie band from Leeds, England, active mainly between 1985 and 1991. They took their name from a poem by T.S. Eliot and comprised David Ashmoore (vocals), Choque (guitar), Howard Taylor (bass), Brian E Roberts (guitar), and Jonny Cragg (drums). Starting as a duo with Ashmoore and Choque, they eventually became a five-piece, releasing several albums including *Tales of the Riverbank*, *The Man Who Would Be King*, and *Cresta*. Their song "White Train" gained some attention, even earning them a spot as NME's 'stars of tomorrow' in 1989. They were known for their distinctive live shows featuring tree props inspired by the children's TV show *The Magic Roundabout*, and toured alongside notable bands like The Stone Roses and Suede. The band dissolved in 1991, but their posthumous album *Twisted*, with unreleased and live tracks, was released in 1994.
An interesting note is that Jonny Cragg, their drummer, went on to join the band Spacehog and has had a varied career as a session musician, producer, and educator. The Hollow Men remain remembered for their place in the UK indie scene of the late '80s and their connection to the vibrant Leeds and Manchester music scenes at the time.
