Annie M.G. Schmidt

Annie M.G. Schmidt was a beloved Dutch writer, poet, and lyricist known for her witty and whimsical work, particularly in children's literature and musical theatre. Born in 1911, she became a cultural icon in the Netherlands, often referred to as the "queen of Dutch children's literature." Many of her stories, like "Jip en Janneke," "Floddertje," and "Ibbeltje," have charmed generations with their playful language and imaginative scenarios.

Her collaboration with composer Harry Bannink produced some of the country’s most famous children’s songs and musicals, blending clever, light-hearted lyrics with memorable melodies. Annie's legacy lives on not just in books, but also in recordings, musicals, and family traditions, making her a cornerstone of Dutch cultural heritage.
