Klaus Doldinger

Klaus Doldinger is a celebrated German saxophonist and composer, best known for his work in jazz and film music. Born in 1936, Doldinger made his mark early as a jazz musician before founding the influential jazz fusion band Passport in 1971. With Passport, he blended elements of jazz, rock, and electronic music, becoming one of the leading voices in European jazz fusion and gaining international acclaim over the decades.

Beyond the stage, Doldinger is widely recognized for his prolific contributions to film and television scores. He's particularly known for composing the iconic theme for the long-running German TV crime series Tatort and the evocative soundtrack for Wolfgang Petersen's 1981 film Das Boot. He also co-composed the score for the fantasy classic The NeverEnding Story. With a career spanning more than six decades, Klaus Doldinger remains a foundational figure in Germany's musical landscape, bridging cinematic and jazz worlds with his distinctive sound.
