Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta

Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta is a renowned Bengali musician and exponent of Rabindra Sangeet. Born into a musical family, she was trained in pure Hindustani classical music by her father, Pabitra Dasgupta, a lecturer at Bhatkhande Marris Music College in Lucknow. She furthered her musical education with an M.A. in music from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and received additional training from Maya Sen, an expert in Rabindra Sangeet. Swagatalakshmi has had a prolific career, recording over 5000 songs across various genres, including North Indian classical music, Carnatic classical music, and Western music. She is known for her versatility, singing in nine languages and often accompanying herself on the piano. Her notable achievements include recording the entire *Geetabitan* by Rabindranath Tagore and the Bhagavad Gita. She has released over 225 albums and has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to music.

Swagatalakshmi's recent releases include albums like *Khela Jokhon*, *Hey Priyo*, *Nikhil Bhubon*, and *Pujar Gaane Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta*, showcasing her continued dedication to diverse musical styles. Her work spans not only music but also writing, with three published books on poetry and songs. She has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Promothesh Barua Award, Uttam Kumar Award, and the Millennium Kalakar Award, among others. Her contributions to Indian music have been recognized by the Government of West Bengal with the Sangeet Mahasamman Award in 2013.
