Stephen Altoft is a dedicated trumpet innovator who's all about pushing the boundaries of new music for the instrument, including his custom 19-note-per-octave trumpet and flugelhorn. As a solo artist and in duo Contour with percussionist Lee Ferguson, he's released cool albums like *Time Dreaming*, *RASP*, *Pseudo-Relations*, *Lud's Church*, *Dialogue*, and *Homenaje a Salinas*, often diving into microtonal sounds.
Hailing from Barton-upon-Humber in North Lincolnshire, he studied at the University of Huddersfield from 1991-1995, snagging B.Mus Honours, a Masters in performance, and the Ricordi Prize. Now co-director of Microtonal Projects, he runs EUROMicroFest, teaches trumpet and improv in Waldkirch, and has played with groups like the Cornelius Cardew Ensemble.
