Rahim Jantan, born Mohd Noh bin Jantan on December 15, 1947, in Melaka, Malaysia, was a prominent figure in Malaysian traditional music, particularly known for his work in the 1960s. He began his music career while attending Sekolah Umum Bachang, where he was tasked by his teacher to lead the singing of the national anthem, "Negaraku." This sparked his passion for music. In 1969, he was crowned the champion of the Bintang Lagu Melayu Asli Kebangsaan in the southern region, releasing his first album that same year. The album featured songs like "Kasih Berpadu" and "Jangan Lupakan Daku." Throughout his career, Rahim worked with various institutions, including the Department of Culture in Melaka and the National Culture Complex. He was recognized for his contributions with awards such as Anugerah Seni Negara in 2006 and others. Rahim also performed internationally, showcasing Malaysian music in Europe, Australia, Fiji, and Japan.
Rahim Jantan continued to influence Malaysian music by establishing several traditional Malay music groups, including "Rahim Jantan dan Rakan-rakan" and "Kumpulan Senandung Melayu." He was also a respected educator and consultant, contributing to the preservation of traditional Malay music. He passed away on May 31, 2010, at the age of 62. While some recent releases are noted, such as "Pa Ma Grana Wa Zama Janana" and "Asli," these titles are not widely documented in his biography. Nonetheless, his legacy in Malaysian music remains significant.
