Truls Mørk

Truls Mørk is a celebrated Norwegian cellist recognized for his rich tone, deep musicality, and expressive interpretations of a broad repertoire. Born in 1961 into a musical family—his father was a cellist and his mother a pianist—Mørk began playing cello at an early age and quickly distinguished himself, winning top prizes at major international competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982. His career took off from there, and he has since performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors.

Mørk is especially admired for his interpretations of Romantic and 20th-century works, and his discography spans everything from Bach’s solo suites to concertos by Elgar, Dvořák, and Shostakovich. He’s also a passionate advocate for contemporary music and has premiered works by a number of modern composers. Beyond the concert stage, he’s dedicated to teaching and has helped train the next generation of cellists as a professor in Norway. His artistry has made him a standout figure in the classical music world.
