MF DOOM

MF DOOM, born Daniel Dumile on January 9, 1971, in London and raised in Long Island, New York, was an enigmatic figure in the hip-hop world and revered by fans and fellow artists alike for his intricate lyricism, clever wordplay, and distinctive delivery. He began his musical journey under the name Zev Love X as part of the group KMD in the late 1980s and early 90s. However, it was after a hiatus from the music scene following the death of his brother and KMD bandmate DJ Subroc, and a period of homelessness, that Dumile re-emerged in the late '90s wearing a metal mask akin to that of Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom, hence adopting the stage name MF DOOM.

DOOM’s career was marked by his elusive persona and his prolific output of music, including the critically acclamated albums "Operation: Doomsday" (1999), "Madvillainy" (2004) with Madlib as Madvillain, and "MM..FOOD" (2004). His work, often characterized by the use of obscure samples and non-traditional song structures, solidified his standing as a cult figure in the underground hip-hop scene. His collaborations were numerous and varied, including projects like "The Mouse and the Mask" with producer Danger Mouse as Danger Doom, and "Born Like This". Even after his untimely death on October 31, 2020, MF DOOM's influence endures, with posthumous releases and remixes such as "Super What?" and "The Chocolate Conquistadors" from Grand Theft Auto Online: The Cayo Perico Heist continuing to contribute to his enigmatic and cherished legacy in music history.
