Phatteman

Phatteman Rajbhandari was a legendary Nepali musician and vocalist, born on November 28, 1936. He is celebrated for his contributions to Nepali music, particularly in the genres of classical and contemporary music. Phatteman's journey into music began at a young age, singing bhajans near the Pashupatinath Temple. His father, Jeetman Rajbhandari, a tabla player, was a significant influence on his early musical endeavors. Phatteman gained widespread recognition with songs like "Yesto Pani Hudo Raichha," "Marna Baru Garho Hunna," and "Banai Khayo Dadelo Ley," which were often composed by notable figures such as Narayan Gopal and Natikaji. He was awarded numerous accolades for his contributions, including the Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu and the Birendra Aishwarya Sewa Padak.

Phatteman's legacy extends beyond his own music; he was a pioneer in shaping the modern Nepali music scene. His performances at events like the Paleti series in the early 2000s marked a resurgence in his career. His only album, "Phatteman at 70," released when he was 70 years old, showcases his enduring talent. Phatteman passed away on September 9, 2013, leaving behind a rich musical heritage and a family that includes his wife, two sons, and three daughters.
