Ricardo Tanturi

Ricardo Tanturi, born on January 27, 1905, in Buenos Aires, was an influential figure in the golden age of Argentine tango. Known as "El Caballero del Tango" for his distinctive elegance and style, Tanturi began his musical journey studying piano at a young age, but it was his leadership and improvisational skills that led him to form his renowned orchestra, Ricardo Tanturi y Su Orquesta Típica "Los Indios," in the 1930s. He rose to prominence with a sound that struck a balance between the traditional and the innovative, which resonated with tango enthusiasts of the era.

Tanturi's orchestra became a powerhouse when he joined forces with singer Alberto Castillo, whose unique and dramatic vocal delivery was a perfect match for Tanturi's rhythmic and evocative arrangements. The collaboration between 1940 and 1942 proved to be one of the most memorable periods in his career, yielding numerous hits that became staples of the tango repertoire. The restored recordings from this era, captured in releases such as "Ricardo Tanturi y Su Orquesta Típica 'Los Indios' - Alberto Castillo 1940 - 1942 (Restauración 2022)," showcase the timeless appeal of their music. Tanturi's work, which includes albums like "Alma de Bohemio," "Sus Más Bellos Valses," and "Serie De Oro Vol 2: Ricardo Tanturi," left an indelible mark on the world of tango before he stepped away from the music scene in the late 1940s. His influence continues to be felt and celebrated by tango aficionados around the globe. Ricardo Tanturi passed away on January 24, 1973, but his music lives on as a testament to the enduring spirit of tango.
