Malicorne

Malicorne was a groundbreaking French folk-rock band formed in the early 1970s by Gabriel Yacoub and Marie Yacoub. Known for their innovative fusion of traditional French folk music with modern rock and classical influences, Malicorne played a pivotal role in the revival of folk music in France. They drew inspiration from centuries-old songs and instruments, blending hurdy-gurdies, dulcimers, and crumhorns with electric guitars and synthesizers to create a sound that was both ancient and contemporary.

Throughout their career, Malicorne released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including Pierre de Grenoble, Almanach, and Le Bestiaire, each showcasing intricate arrangements and haunting vocal harmonies. Their music often revolved around folklore, legends, and regional traditions, earning them a dedicated following in France and beyond. After disbanding in the late 1980s, the band reunited for select performances, including their notable 2010 concert at Les Francofolies de La Rochelle. Malicorne remains a beloved and influential name in the world of French folk and progressive music.
