Silly Wizard

Silly Wizard was a highly influential Scottish folk band that played a significant role in the folk revival of the 1970s and 1980s. Formed in Edinburgh in 1970, the band's lineup changed a few times over their active years, but they consistently maintained a high standard of musicianship and were known for their dynamic and spirited performances. The band's core members included Andy M. Stewart on lead vocals and tenor banjo, Johnny Cunningham on fiddle, Phil Cunningham on accordion and keyboards, Gordon Jones on guitar and vocals, and Martin Hadden on bass and guitar.

Throughout their celebrated career, Silly Wizard's music was characterized by a deeply emotive combination of traditional Celtic music with original compositions, which often reflected the rich historical and cultural tapestry of Scotland. Their albums, including "Caledonia's Hardy Sons" (1978), "So Many Partings" (1979), "Wild & Beautiful" (1981), and "Kiss The Tears Away" (1983), paint vivid pictures of Scottish life and landscapes through skilled instrumentation and heartfelt narratives. Although the band disbanded in 1988, their music continues to influence contemporary folk musicians and enthrall new generations of listeners. Silly Wizard's legacy further endures through their live recordings, in particular "Live Again," which was released in 2012. This compilation was meticulously remastered from a 1983 concert, capturing the electric essence of their performances and serving as a lasting testament to the band's talent and impact on the folk music scene.
